PAN Global Conference Call to Offer First Hand Perspective on South Asia Earthquake

On the ground reports from Pakistan - YPO/WPOers' response to the tragedy in Kashmir

Wednesday November 16

11am EST, 16:00 UTC, 9pm Pakistan

For conference call time in your area, click here

The magnitude of the humanitarian crisis resulting from the earthquake in Kashmir is difficult to comprehend. According to YPOers in Pakistan, the situation is much worse than what many outside the region are seeing in the media. There are over 70,000 confirmed deaths from the quake and its immediate aftermath, and many fear that the total number of deaths exceeds 150,000. There are also more than 3.5 million homeless and displaced people who must be sheltered very soon from the Himalayan winter’s brutal cold and snow or an even more massive disaster will ensue.

Panelists Amin Hashwani and Nancy Aossey

In a global conference call on Wednesday November 16, YPO and WPOers in Pakistan will discuss how they have been affected, what they are doing, and what you can do. Amin Hashwani (YPO-Pakistan, Founding Member of PAN and the PAN Indo-Pak Peace Forum), will lead a panel of members on the ground in Pakistan who are all actively involved in relief efforts. You will also hear from Nancy Aossey (YPO-Bel Air, International Chapter, Founding Member of PAN and CEO of International Medical Corps (IMC)), about the crisis and IMC’s relief efforts in the region. You will get a first hand perspective in this "Only in YPO/WPO" 60-minute conference call.

PAN Champions Meeting January 25-27 in London to Focus on Launching New Action Forums and Initiatives

Please join PAN’s Executive Committee for a two-day PAN Champions Meeting focused on launching new Action Forums, initiatives and events. This meeting will take place in London 25-27 January 2006.

Who Should Come

Please come if you are a YPO/WPO member or spouse who is interested in:

  • joining or championing a PAN Action Forum or initiative

  • championing a PAN Education event

  • joining “think tank” sessions where participants become architects of specific PAN Action Forums in their areas of interest

  • planning strategy and direction to shape PAN’s future

  • getting a “Taste of PAN” experience

  • getting involved in PAN leadership

Championing New PAN Programs

Members and spouses are always encouraged to champion new Action Forums and Education programs in areas where they have passion.

PAN has catalyzed several successful Action Forums of Business Leaders in Conflict Areas, including India/Pakistan, the Middle East, Turkey/Armenia, Jewish/Arab/Muslim-Americans, Jewish and Muslim Women in London, and US and the Arab countries.

PAN has also launched Action Forums delivering Market-driven Solutions to Global Problems such as Poverty, including the Microfinance Forum and newly forming Action Forums on the Environment, Education, Third World Development, Disaster Relief, Women and Children's Health, and AIDS in Africa.

PAN Education Programs include Chapter events, Global Conference Calls, “Making a Difference” Experiences to areas of conflict and need, academies and programs at YPO and WPO International Universities, Seminars and Conferences.

Meeting Agenda

The PAN Champions Meeting’s agenda will focus on action - energizing new PAN Forums and programs and empowering PAN champions to take action, in effect a PAN GLC or CLC. The meeting’s objective is to enable PAN champions to catalyze new programs that make a difference in areas that they care deeply about, thereby making a dramatic difference in their own lives.

Participants will find ways to leverage their individual ability to make a difference by working with the unique strengths of peers in PAN Network. Desired outcome is that participants leave the meeting with action plans and a network to achieve their goals.

PAN Members Build Nepal School in Collaboration with Room to Read, Start "Education for the Disadvantaged" Forum

Construction has been completed in rural Nepal on a new primary school funded by PAN members in collaboration with Room to Read.  The management of Shree Kewalpur Primary School will use the new six-room building for five classrooms, an office and a Reading Room school library.

Room to Read (www.roomtoread.org) builds schools in poor communities around the world (a specific focus on Nepal at the moment, as well as on Sri Lanka post-Tsunami) in conjunction with the local community. Their approach is to provide the money for the materials and to provide a blueprint/architectural plan but to have the local community “donate” the labor, enabling them to build a school for an amazing $5,000 per school.

“This school was built through the cooperation of the local community, Room to Read, and the Peace Action Network of the Young President’s Organization.”

New "Education for the Disadvantaged" Action Forum to Meet in DC March 6-8

PAN is now launching an "Education for the Disadvantaged" Forum focused on catalyzing education-related programs championed by YPO/WPOers.  Its first meeting will take place in Washington DC 6-8 March 2006.

The "Education for the Disadvantaged" Action Forum is envisioned to have 8-12 YPO/WPO members of PAN who are passionate about this arena. This forum will meet 2 times a year for 1-2 days each time in a confidential YPO/WPO Forum-style environment to create better children's education philanthropists through education and idea exchange.

New Action Forum Being Formed on Women & Children's Health Issues in the Developing World

We are exploring starting an Action Forum focused on women and children’s health issues in the developing world. Whether we are talking about preventing the transmission of the AIDS virus from pregnant woman to her unborn child in Africa; distribution of folic acid to prevent birth defects in South America; vaccinating children for polio or preventing malaria; we can make a difference.

If you would be interested in participating in this forum or just learning more about the issues, please contact Linda Benge at

PAN Environment Forum Is Looking for Committed Members

The founders of PAN’s Environment Forum are looking for fellow WPO/YPO members and/or spouses who are concerned about our global environment.  The Environment Forum’s goals are:

  • To serve as a focal point within WPO and YPO for ideas, support, resources and action related to environmental issues;
  • To help each other with our own environment-related initiatives through sharing, advice, brainstorming and contacts/resources;
  • To work together and learn from each other better environmental practices that lead to better businesses, better communities, a better quality of life and greater wealth for everyone;
  • To tackle a few projects together as a forum, applying market principles in ways that leverage the uniqueness of the WPO/YPO network;
  • To find ways in which the incredible brainpower, purchasing power and marketing muscle of WPO/YPOers can positively impact our global environment and, ultimately, ourselves, our families and our communities.

If you have any questions about the Environment Forum or would like to get involved, please contact Robert Sherriff at robert.sherriff@item.com.hk.
